Community Legal Clinics in Ontario
Community Legal Education Ontario

CLEO is a community legal clinic that produces clear language material for people with low incomes. Main topics include social assistance, landlord and tenant law, refugee and immigration law, workers' compensation, women's issues, family law, employment insurance and human rights.

Income Security Advocacy Center

The Income Security Advocacy Centre works with and on behalf of low-income communities in Ontario to address issues of income security and poverty.

The Centre initiates and conducts test case and Charter litigation, law reform and community development related to federal and provincial income security programs such as Ontario Works, the Ontario Disability Support Program, Employment Insurance and the Canada Pension Plan.

 

Our Principal Funder
Legal Aid Ontario

Legal Aid Ontario, the primary funder for community legal clinics in Ontario, is an independent but publicly funded and publicly accountable non-profit corporation with a mandate to promote access to justice throughout Ontario for low-income individuals. LAO also provides funding for the Association of Community Legal Clinics of Ontario (ACLCO) along with the members of the Association.

 

 

Sister Associations
NACLC (Australia)

The National Association of Community Legal Centres (NACLC) is the association of state community legal centre organisations in Australia. Member organisations represent around 160 community legal centres across Australia.

Law Centres Federation (U.K.)

The LCF is the national body for a network of community based Law Centres. Law Centres provide help in solving everyday problems, such as getting decent housing, dealing with discrimination, or obtaining the correct benefits.

The LCF believes that every community should have a Law Centre and calls for a national network of independent Law Centres to stand up for people’s fundamental and human rights.
Law Centres are members of the LCF and provide an independent specialist legal advice, assistance and representation service. 

 

Other Organizations of Interest
Board Support Working Group


The Board Support Working Group is an advisory body to the Provincial Learning Advisory Committee, a joint initiative between Legal Aid Ontario and the Community Legal Clinic System in Ontario.  The BSWG is mandated to provide learning supports to community legal clinic boards of directors to assist them in developing their governance capacity.
