The ACLCO is a non-profit corporation, operating in accordance with its by-laws. The ACLCO receives its funding from both Legal Aid Ontario (pursuant to a Funding Agreement), and from its member clinics.
The ACLCO is governed by a 13 person Executive. This Executive is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting of its Members, with representatives from each of the 4 regions in the province (North, East, Southwest, Toronto/Specialty). The Executive is made up of both clinic board and staff members.
The ACLCO employs two staff members, its Executive Director, Lenny Abramowicz, and a part time Administrative Assistant and budding thespian, Trudi Reaume. The ACLCO serves its members as the voice of the clinic system to various stakeholders, including: Legal Aid Ontario, the Law Society of Upper Canada, all levels of government, law schools, the media, and the general public. To enable it to do so, it relies on its Consultation Policy to develop clinic system positions, and its Communications Policy to keep in contact with its membership. To ensure financial accountability to its members and funder the ACLCO relies upon a Financial Management Policy and is audited annually.
